Celebrating 20 years of the Calgary Distinguished Writers Program.
Each year, the CDWP provides an emerging Canadian writer with a ten-month residency at the U of C to devote time to writing and advancing their writing careers. The program also hosts writers of international stature for manuscript consultations, readings, and workshops.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary, we published a chapbook featuring work by eleven former Distinguished Visiting Writers and Writers-in-Residence: Oana Avasilichioaei, Natalee Caple, Marcello Di Cintio, Jeramy Dodds, Robert Finley, Melanie Little, Sina Queyras, Alberto Ríos, Jaspreet Singh, Art Spiegelman, and Deborah Willis. Each writer contributes work that relates to Calgary in some way.
Our goal with the publication was to help build awareness for and enhance the overall visibility of the CDWP. And, of course, to celebrate the amazing work the program yields. The design needed to showcase several different prose formats including poetry, fiction excerpts, and a graphic spread by Spiegelman.
